The number of patients diagnosed and treated for coronavirus in the U.S. is small compared with the thousands of patients affected by COVID-19 across the world. Since the first case was reported in the U.S. at the end of January, hundreds of infected individuals have been detected in all but a handful of states.
Experts expect the number of U.S. cases to rise sharply over the next two weeks as more testing detects new infections. Early efforts to test patients have been riddled with delays and problems and left even patients with symptoms or exposure to COVID-19 unable to get tested. The numbers on this page are probably just the tip of the iceberg.
