Senior run over several times by gun-toting car thief in northwest Calgary

A 66-year-old man was run over multiple times by a stolen vehicle on Sunday, and police continue to hunt for the driver.

The incident took place around 12:45 p.m. in the 4600 block of 83rd Street N.W. Calgary police said the driver ran over the victim multiple times before threatening witnesses with a firearm when he was confronted.

The man then exited the stolen vehicle and approached the driver of another vehicle, which he attempted to carjack. Police said a “struggle took place” before the assailant fled the area on foot after taking the driver’s wallet.

Police recovered a handgun and several items of clothing they believe belonged to the culprit, but did not locate the man after an “extensive” search of the area.

The 66-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators continue their search for a suspect, which they describe as a white man in his 20s with a slim build. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a ripped white shirt and grey sweatpants.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the police at 403-266-1234 or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.calgarycrimestoppers.org
