Road rage: Young girl burned as beverage tossed into car

A seven-year-old girl suffered second degree burns after a road rage incident in Calgary.

Local police said the incident took place on Saturday as a man was driving eastbound on 39th Avenue N.E. with his family. As their vehicle neared 34th Street N.E., a sedan ran a red light, nearly hitting them. The man honked at the Sedan and braked to avoid a crash.

With both vehicles stopped at the intersection of 39th Avenue N.E. and 36th Street N.E., a man emerged from the back seat of the sedan and threw a hot beverage into the window of the other vehicle. It missed the driver, but hit his young daughter causing “significant” burns to her face and shoulder, said police.

The assailant returned to the sedan, which drove off towards 44th Avenue N.E. The father was unable to catch the licence plate from the vehicle.

The child was rushed to hospital and has since been released.

Authorities are searching for three people involved in the incident.

Police describe the driver as a south Asian man in his mid-20s with a black beard. The man who threw the hot beverage is described as south Asian in his early 20s, about 5’8” tall with a “solid build”, wearing a white shirt and hat. The other passenger is described as a south Asian man in his 60s with short, white facial hair.

The offending vehicle was described by the victim’s family as a silver, four-door sedan.
