Port of NAIA Performs Amidst Challenges of 2020
As the nation confronts various challenges through the middle of 2020, the Bureau of Customs Port of NAIA sustains efforts to perform its mandate of border protection, trade facilitation and revenue collection.
Although trade slowed down at the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic , the Port is working hard to ensure that revenue collection is prioritized. From Jan to Jun 2020 a total of Php 15.49 billion revenue was contributed by the Port of NAIA which was achieved through the implementation of the One Stop Shop and various online processes.
In border protection, for January to June 2020, the Port was able to seize 23 shipments of illegal drugs amounting to an estimated value of Php 48.1 million, Php 1.3 million worth of illegaly imported meat products and watches, Php 2.5 million worth of illegal chinese medicines and Php 1.5 million of undeclared currency.
In her statement, District Collector Carmelita M. Talusan admitted that indeed the year is turning out to be very challenging especially as the COVID-19 pandemic has affected all aspects of operation. The Port is encouraging stakeholders to use online filing system to promote trade facilitation and contactless transactions
The Port of NAIA remains in full support to BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero’s advocacy in pursuing the Bureau’s mandates and provide much needed revenues to support government projects and initiatives amidst COVID-19.
