Police are searching for three men involved in what they call a “brazen” public shooting outside the Calgary Central Library Monday afternoon.
According to police, the shooting occurred after three men began fighting outside an apartment building on the 400 block of 8 Avenue S.E. at around 1:50 p.m. Monday.
As two of the men drove away from the area in a black Hyundai Sonata, the third man fired gunshots at the car.
Police say no injuries were reported and no victims were found. Some blood was located on the scene but investigations determined it was unrelated to the shooting.
Two Calgary Police Service officers who happened to be in a nearby downtown parking lot at the time of the shooting heard the shots responded to the scene but arrived after suspects had already fled.
Police later found the Hyundai abandoned but have not found the vehicle of the shooter.
The man who shot at the car is described as Black with shoulder-length dreadlocks or braided hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt, army green jacket and red sneakers. Police did not have descriptions for the other two men, nor the car which the shooter drove away in.
“This was a brazen, targeted act that could have resulted in tragedy,” said CPS Staff Sergeant Theresa Garagan in a news release.
“Public safety is always our primary concern and we are committed to holding those responsible for this careless and dangerous act accountable.”
Those who have any information about the incident, including dashcam or CCTV footage or the identity of suspects, are asked to call the Calgary Police Service non-emergency line at 403-266-1234. They can also
