Man walking with shotgun in northeast Calgary found dead

A man walking along 16th Avenue N.E. in Calgary carrying a shotgun prompted multiple calls to police Saturday afternoon.

Calgary Police Service said in a news release that the man stopped a vehicle on the on-ramp to 52nd Street N.E. and entered the car, which was being driven by a woman.

The woman, who was unharmed in the incident, drove the man a short distance towards Sunridge Mall before he exited the car.

The man was found dead in the 3800 block of Rundlehorn Drive N.E. shortly afterwards. Police and medical examiner staff attended the scene.

Police said all information around the death points to it being a suicide and as such are not identifying the man.

Though police do not usually publish information on suicides, they said the public nature of this incident warranted its release.
