Calgary police identify victim slain in Thursday stabbing

Members of the Calgary Police Service investigate the scene of a suspected stabbing that took place in 5500 block of 2 St. S.W. on Thursday, August 13, 2020.

Police have released the identify of a homicide victim in a southwest Calgary stabbing early Thursday morning.

Following an autopsy Friday, police named Calgarian Anthony Taylor, 34, as the man they found collapsed in the street with what appeared to be stab wounds around 2:50 a.m. Thursday.

Officers had responded to reports of an assault at a residence in the 5500 block of 2nd Street S.W. On arrival, they found Taylor a short distance from the residence, lying between two vehicles. He later died of his injuries.

Police say the residence they originally responded to was known to officers, with complaints made related to drug activity in the area.

Investigators are searching for CCTV footage from the area and talking to witnesses, police said.

Those with information on the murder are asked to contact Calgary Police Service non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or the Homicide Tip Line at 403-428-8877. They can also contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
