BOC NAIA DESTROYS MORE ILLEGALLY IMPORTED PRODUCTS

The Bureau of Customs NAIA destroyed another  1.5 tons of various seized imported goods including an estimated 400 kilograms of Goree beauty products on June 11, 2020 in Trece Martires, Cavite.

Among the condemned goods are several packages of medicines, cosmetics, Goree products which were unlawfully imported into the country without the necessary permits and clearances from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Under FDA Advisory No. 2017-289, the use and distribution of Goree products which were found to contain toxic mercury levels beyond the limit set by the agency are strictly prohibited.

The harmful beauty products were burned and disposed of using the Thermal Decomposer (Pyrolysis) of Integrated Waste Management Inc. (IWMI).

In support of Customs Commissioner Rey Guerrero’s unwavering border protection efforts against dangerous goods and substances, the BOC-NAIA under District Collector Mimel Talusan conducted its fourth consecutive condemnation activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To date, a total of 17.1 tons of various seized and abandoned imported goods were successfully condemned by the BOC-NAIA. These include 2 tons of unsafe medicines and meat products on May 22, 8.7 tons of hazardous goods on May 29, and 4.9 tons of expired medicines, cosmetic on June 5.
