BOC Files Raps Against Unscrupulous Consignees
In line with the Bureau of Customs’ (BOC) mandate to protect the country’s borders from the entry of illegal and smuggled goods, the Bureau’s Action Team Against Smugglers (BATAS), on Friday July 10, 2020, filed the appropriate criminal cases against three consignees for violation of the R.A. 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).
First case involves TITAN MARKETING AND DEVELOPMENT CORP. for importation of frozen meat products deemed unfit for human consumption. Violations include Section 1401 (d) in relation to Sections 12, 37 and 38 of R.A. 10611 or the Food safety Act of 2013.
The second case involves FIVEBEAST TRADING for violation of Section 1401 (c) in relation to Sections 1400, 107, 405 and 412 of the CMTA and Article 172 in relation to Article of 171 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC). The said shipment was declared as plastic fittings but was found to actually contain galvanized steel flexible conduit.
Last case involves FGM-RS-CO. for violation of Section 1401 in relation to Section 1400 and Section 1113 (f)(i) of the CMTA and Article 172 in relation to Article 171 of the RPC. The shipment was declared as Hot Rolled Steel Coil but was found to contain galvanized steel coil valued at a higher price.
The cases were filed before the Department of Justice – National Prosecution Office. The filing of the cases reiterates the commitment of the Bureau to prevent any unlawful importation of goods into the country as well as to hold liable erring individuals under the law.
