 BOC ESS Apprehends 2.5 Million Worth of Fake Cigarettes

In line with Bureau of Customs’ (BOC) commitment to guard the nations borders, the Bureau through the Enforcement and Security Service (ESS) and Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) on July 17, 2020 apprehended 86 master cases of fake cigarettes with an estimated value of Php 2.6 Million.

Armed with a Letter of Authority signed by BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, members of the BOC Quick Reaction Team (QRT) and CIIS raided a warehouse in Santiago, Isabela where an abandoned truck was discovered to contain 86 master cases of fake Marvel and Mighty cigarettes.

The cigarettes were initially estimated with a value of Php 2.6 million. Inventory procedures are currently on-going to determine the exact volume and amount of the seized cigarettes. 

The Bureau of Customs reiterates its commitment to prevent the entry of smuggled and fake goods as the same may have serious effects on the health of unknowing users as well as the impact it will have on legitimate manufacturers and importers.
